Turn-based warfare becomes unreasonab­ly cute

Nintendo’s Advance Wars series won over a pretty big cult audience back in the early 2000s, with its mixture of easy-tofollow but still complex turn-based strategy. This success was powered by its standout pixel art, interestin­g leader characters and each faction’s specific battle-changing abilities. Now Chucklefis­h, developers of Starbound, are taking a stab at a spiritual successor to the game, since Nintendo forgot about it. Samuel Roberts

Advanced A d v a n c e Wa r s Wargroove has its own map editor, and will be modderfrie­ndly, which is a key difference between Wargroove and AdvanceWar­s. Likewise, it can be played in multiplaye­r online and locally offline, too.
