50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 25 June 23, 1966

A meeting was held Monday at the Benton County Loan Closet with Mrs. G.C. Tinnin, president of the local cancer unit, reporting that the donations for Benton County is nearing the $3,000 mark. Mr. Tom Snodgrass, executive secretary of the Arkansas Unit of the American Cancer Society, was also in attendance.

The Pea Ridge school library will be open this summer, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon for both elementary and high school children. The school has been notified that their applicatio­n for Title II federal program of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 has been approved.

Beta Alpha chapter members and husbands met Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanely Buttry for a hamburger barbecuequ­e.

Mrs. Vernon (Sara) Huskey, of Pea Ridge, has assumed the duties of advertisin­g solicitor and new reporter for the Pea Ridge Graphic.

Through the sponsorshi­p by the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce of a special program known as the Health Fair, those who attend the annual Community Fair July 7-10 may avail themselves without charge of the opportunit­y of consulting with an accredited medical group on matters relating to personal health.

The title on 3.76 acres of land donated to the City of Pea Ridge for use as a city park has been officially transferre­d to the city, according to Kathy Knox, chairman of the Park Committee. The land, donated by Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Clark and G.W. Nesselhauf, is to be combined with approximat­ely six additional acres for developmen­t as a park. The land is in the north end of Pea Ridge west of Hayden (Jacket) Road.

Firecracke­r sales sponsored by the Pea Ridge Kiwanis Club began this week and will continue through the Fourth of July, according to Chuck Hazelton who is in charge of the project. The stands will be operated by members of the Little League Booster Club, the Park Committee and the Blackhawk Booster Club, the three groups who will receive the proceeds of the firecracke­r sales.

Reports to the Legislativ­e Joint Auditing Committee and Pea Ridge District 109 School Board made public Friday indicate many district violations of standard accounting procedures in the years ending June 30, 1984 and 1985.

The Pea Ridge School Board hired a high school principal June 10, approved summer help schedules and several extended-year contracts. Despite protests from board member Andy buck, they also approved
