50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 31 Thursday, Aug. 4, 1966

The Pea Ridge Fair began Thursday, Aug. 4, and continued through Aug. 6. Entertainm­ent was provided by Ed Driver and the Agents 007, the McElmurry Sisters and Country Fiddle by Frank Price. The parade began at the Old Mill building at 10 a.m. Saturday. The queen contest was Friday night. Candidates were Stella David, Sharon Dickson, Joyce Huskey, Debbie Musteen, Linda Weston, Rene Williams and Sandra Williams.

Glen Jackson was named new Jr. High School coach.

Russell Jones, school principal, resigned to accept a similar position at Northside elementary School, Rogers.

The State Highway Department started seal-coating and chatting Highway 94 from Pea Ridge to the Missouri line Monday.

40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Vol. 11 No. 31 Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1976

Constructi­on is scheduled to begin this month on a Spe-Dee Mart gasoline station and grocery store in Pea Ridge. The new store is to be located at the present site of Wright’s Auto Sales at the intersecti­on of Hwy. 94 and 72.

Two Pea Ridge girls, Kellie Webb and Peggy McKinney, and Brenda McLeod of Little Flock are members of the women’s fast pitch softball team which competed last weekend in a regional tournament in Memphis.

Owen Wood of Pea Ridge has been reelected to a three-year term on the electric distributi­on system’s board of Carroll Electric Cooperativ­e, it was disclosed at the organizati­on’s annual meeting in Berryville.

The Pea Ridge School District 109, in a session that lasted nearly four hours, hired four new teachers and agreed to buy a computeriz­ed accounting system.

A routine speeding citation late Sunday night turned into an arrest for manufactur­e of a controlled substance, speeding and resisting arrest. Nine marijuana plants were found in the vehicle by deputy Roger Baton.

A new section added to the Pea Ridge School District’s handbook makes it clear that searches of students’ lockers are legal and to be expected if there is any cause to believe they might hold illegal items.

Pea Ridge alderman Phil Womack said he will not seek re-election.

Miss Pea Ridge Zabrina Grigg was crowned Miss Centerton Fire Prevention.

There are several job openings at Pea Ridge schools to be filled before the 1996-97 school year begins. The board hired elementary principals twice this summer and both times the persons changed their minds.

Tina Bangs was featured as the good cook of the week by editor Mike Freeman.

It’s been a long time since Pea Ridge coach Mike Harrod has had to replace so many starters on both the offensive and defensive sides of the football.

Seeking his second fiveyear term to the Pea Ridge School Board, Mike Villines has filed for re-election.

Recalling the spirit of the past while providing the best of modern retail and office space is what Bob Abercrombi­e hopes to accomplish with the new Leetown Crossing village center in Pea Ridge. It was designed as an 1860s-era village.
