Jr. Blackhawk cheerleading

Carolyn Starnes, head coach of Jr. high cheer, is starting her first year as a coach and her second year at pea Ridge. She is a graduate of Belton High School, Belton, Mo., earned her bachelor’s degree from Missouri State Universty and her master’s from the University of Arkansas. She is the counselor for seventh and eighth grade students at the Middle School.

Starnes said: “I’m a coach because I love helping my cheerleaders grow as individuals and as a team. I believe participating in sports builds confidence, discipline, and trust in others; it’s a joy to be able to promote those attributes to my team.”

The best advice she ever received as an athlete? “Never forget your techniques and basic skills foundation. When everything seems to be working against you and you can’t seem to ‘get in the zone,’ go back to the basics.”

The advice she would give to student athletes? “Trust and believe in your team. My team’s moto is ‘Together we’re better!’”

Her husband is Ian Starnes. She enjoys cooking, reading and cycling.
