Our Wednesday story and craft hour is going so splendidly! Katie Young, one of our delightful librarians, has been organizing the theme and craft while Carrie Staten, a sweet mother and patron, comes to read to the young ones with a wide range of fantastic voices that the children enjoy wholeheartedly. We encourage all local families to join us any time!

There will be a Board Meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22.

The Friends of the Pea Ridge Community Library meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28. Please join us in becoming a member and take part in what will be the makings of history! Do not fret you library loving busy bodies, this commitment will not take up much of your time as we will typically only hold meetings once a month.

We recently created a display honoring The New York Times best selling author and illustrator Ann Dewdney of the remarkable “llama llama” children’s books. As an adult, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading these books with my girls. They have the ability to teach children extraordinary lessons with their brilliant rhyming words and comical illustrations. Sadly, Ann passed away Sept. 3 at the young age of 50 from brain cancer. She didn’t want a funeral, but rather asked her fans to celebrate her life and read a book to a child. She will be greatly missed in the library community.

The library has had a wonderfully expansive amount donations lately, and we have been working our hardest to sort through them all. You will find that most are located on our shelves for you to check out, while some have been placed on our book sale carts in the lobby. We are all most appreciative of your donations, every little bit helps!

Also, the RTI Reading Buddy Program is coming along quite well with just a few more weeks until lift off. Courtney Mitchell, the Intermediate RTI specialist, will be coming to the library Sept. 30 after school to meet with our high school reading buddies. There she will give them some pointers on reading with the children and what type of questions to ask to improve comprehension. We will be keeping logs of what books they read to watch for improvements and to make sure they are taking part in a variety of books.
