Byron ‘Bus’ Ray Broadbooks
Byron “Bus” Ray Broadbooks, 93, of Bentonville, Ark., died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, in Bentonville, Ark., in the midst of his family. He was born on Nov. 14, 1922, in McPherson, Kan.
Bus, a man of quiet strength and passion for family and unflagging loyalty to his country, was husband to, Darda Faith Wadlow for 55 years. He then was married to Elsie Dillow for 14 years.
He served honorably in the Army under General Eisenhower as a mapmaker for the Army Air Corp Pilots. He was present in Paris, France, during the liberation. After his service in the Army, he attended college in Kansas City, earning a degree in architecture and surveying. Upon graduation, he and his family moved to McPherson, Kan., where he worked for the county as a surveyor, later taking a job with Pyle Construction. He worked in Salina, Kan., before moving to Wichita, then to Goddard, where he worked for Descon until retirement in 1990.
He was a licensed pilot and while living in Goddard, Kan., built and flew two airplanes. At the time of his retirement, Bus and Darda moved to Gateway, Ark. He then worked part-time at Fellowship Bible Church.
At the age of 37, he received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and was always a wonderful example as a husband, father, grandfather and to all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Byron B. and Alta Smith Broadbooks; his wives; two sisters, Eleanor Wilcox and Pat Boys; his sons, Peter and Joel; and great-grandson, Brenden.
Survivors are his children, Janna Worden (husband, Bill) of Utica, N.Y.; Dave Broadbooks, (wife Gloria) of Rogers, Ark., Susan Eardley of Rogers, Ark., Peter Broadbooks and Joel Broadbooks; eight grandchildren; seven grandchildren inlaws; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren in-laws; and two greatgreat grandchildren.
Visitation is set for 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Sisco Funeral Home Chapel, Pea Ridge.
Service is set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Sisco Funeral Chapel, Pea Ridge.
Burial will be in Bayless Cemetery with full military honors.

Patricia Sue Casey Varner
Patricia Sue Casey Varner, 76, of Highfill, Ark., died in her home on Aug. 29, 2016. She was born on May 7, 1940, in Parthenon, Ark.
She retired from First Brands of Rogers while owning and operating the Feed Store Cafe of Gentry with her husband Herb for 14 years. She was a member of Corner Post Cowboy Church of Siloam Springs and loved to tell everyone about her church and what great music and singing they have.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Herbert E. Varner; parents, Loyal Casey and Euretta Henderson Casey; one sister, Betty Dixon; brother-in-law Steve Dixon; and two granddaughters.
Survivors are sons, Mark Varner and wife Debbie of Highfill and Keven Varner and wife Mary of Highfill; one stepson, Steve Varner and wife Ruthie of Rogers, Ark.; one stepdaughter, Denise Varner Wagner and husband Erwin of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Judy Casey Patton and husband Steve of Washburn, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 9, 2016, at Corner Post Cowboy Church in Siloam Springs with Pastor Tim Wallace officiating.
A meal will be served by the church after the memorial.
