Last week for buddy program

- MEGAN BRYANT Pea Ridge Librarian

We were saddened this week to learn of the death of Mr. Lynn Kennedy, a friend and generous contributor to the Pea Ridge Community Library. Lynn and Catherine have supported our library for the past few years. It was their wish that the library offer tutoring in reading to adults in our area. With the help of the Literacy Council of Benton County we have been able to make that happen. Our deepest condolences to the family.

This is the last week for the RTI reading buddy program. We have had a blast every Monday and Wednesday after school. The volunteers showed up almost every day and worked so hard listening, reading, asking comprehension questions and keeping great logs! The students did fantastic as well; they read many books and put forth such an effort to reach their goals. The bonds made in the last seven weeks are amazing to see. We look forward to the next RTI reading buddy session. Another big thank you to New Life Fellowship for stopping by every week to see what snacks the kids needed and always bringing cases of water. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Please come hear Dr. Wade Fox, director of the Mercy Sports Medicine speaks at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the library’s community room. He will be educating us on sport injuries, nutrition and new studies. ALL ages are welcome.

The Empty Bowls Event is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. Come see the beautiful art work and buy gorgeous bowls all made by our very own Pea Ridge High School students. Drop in soup dinner and take a ceramic bowl home. First come, first serve.

The Pea Ridge Board of Directors has a meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday. The public is welcome to join us anytime.

On Friday the library had the honor to host the induction ceremony for Arkansas’s newest Fraternal Order of Police. Watching the amazing men of our community be sworn in was a sight to see. They have big plans to serve even more than they already do.

We will be starting a Chess/Checkers club every first Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m. at the library. All ages are welcome to come. Our first one will be held on Dec. 1. Come have some fun.
