50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 48 Thursday, Dec. 1, 1966
The White’s Store in Pea Ridge will observe its third anniversary Friday and Saturday with free coffee and donuts all day Saturday and many outstanding special anniversary buys in all departments of the store. The store is owned and operated by John and June Easley.
The Pea Ridge School received a letter from the St. Joseph Catholic School in Fayetteville forfeiting the Junior High Football game to Pea Ridge for reason of having an ineligible coach.
The Loyd Miller Skelly station in Pea Ridge was heavily damaged by an explosion and fire about 8 a.m. Monday. The fire started when fumes from the gas tanks was ignited by a space heater in the station.
There will be a “donkey” basketball game Friday in the Pea Ridge gym. Advance tickets are available at 75 cents each. Tickets at the door will be $1 for adults and 50 cents for students.

Benton County Deputy Sheriff Edward Dean Rose, 43, was fatally wounded Monday night in an attempted jail break by two inmates at the county jail, Sheriff James Pearson announced. It was unofficially disclosed that the assailants were two of the three men charged in the Oct. 28 robbery of the Garfield Post Office.
A date for a special election on a proposed dog ordinance for Pea Ridge is to be set at the regular monthly City Council meeting scheduled for Dec. 9 at City Hall.
30 Years Ago Pea Ridge Country Times Vol. 21 No. 48 Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1986
Aaron Meredith, 16, Rogers, escaped injury when a 1982 Ford Bronco he was driving rolled over on Sugar Creek Hill on Ark. Hwy. 94 at the south end of Pea Ridge Saturday night.
The Garfield Council adopted a 1987 city budget, agreed to have a series of tests run to avoid a potentially hazardous combination of a “filter wash” chemical and city water, decided to talk to the owners of an RV park about potential problems and discussed other matters in a regular meeting Nov. 20. Alderman Gary Blackburn called the 1987 revenue projections “mostly right” saying they represent the best estimates of the committee members.
A special “Family History Information Booth” will be set up at the Extension Homemakers building in Pea Ridge Saturday, Nov. 29. The booth is being held in conjunction with Benton County Family History Week.

There is an angel tree at Pea Ridge City Hall. It has been sponsored annually by the Pea Ridge Ministerial Alliance for the past five years in an effort to see that no area child is overlooked by Santa Claus.
A dozen or so of those flowering crab apple trees in front of the Visitor Center at Pea Ridge National Military Park will not flower next spring. Some have been replaced by oaks or hickories. Park employee Billy Clark said the trees are about 30 years old and the trunks are rotting and heavy limbs are splitting.
The Pea Ridge City Council approved an ordinance to rezone property on Weston Street to Residential-2 allowing multifamily apartments to be built despite much opposition from area residents.

Taking the first steps towards the goal of hiring full-time help for the Fire and Ambulance departments, councilmen approved giving $15,000 to the Fire Department for their share of the salary for a paramedic to staff the office during the weekdays.
A star was set atop one of the several decorations on the old school grounds in downtown Pea Ridge in preparation for the Christmas lighting ceremony. The theme of the Christmas parade, which will precede the ceremony, was “Christmas in the Ozarks.”
Pea Ridge councilmen tabled the ordinance which would have enacted new planning zones in order for the ordinance to be presented at a public hearing at the Planning Commission meeting.
Pea Ridge City Council members approved a budget for 2007 of $4,474,393.
A rezoning request will be heard in a public meeting Tuesday at the Pea Ridge Planning Commission meeting at City Hall for land at 400 Slack St. The land, owned by WalMart is on the agenda for rezoning to C-1.
