50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 49 Thursday, Dec. 8, 1966

The Highway Commission last week authorized the addition of 730.74 miles of county roads to the state highway system including a county road from the junction of U.S. Highway 62 to Lost Bridge use area, Beaver Reservoir.

The Pea Ridge Fire Department responded to a grass fire alarm at the Military Park Sunday and was instrument­al in extinguish­ing the blaze after the fire had burned more than 100 acres.

The draft quota for February has been slashed to 10,900 inductions into the Army. Previous quotas were 15,600 for January, 12,100 for December, 37,600 for November and 49,200 for October.

40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Vol. 11 No. 49 Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1976

Phillips Food Center in Pea Ridge was burglarize­d early Saturday morning for the second time in a month, according to city marshal Loyd Pifer. The store was broken into sometime between 2:30 and 6 a.m., Pifer said. Approximat­ely 30 to 40 cartons of cigarettes and a quantity of meat were reported taken.

The Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce elected officers including Sammy Spivey, president; John Easley, vice president; and Eva Patterson, secretaryt­reasurer.

Holiday music will be played during the Winter Band Concert by the beginning band, junior band and senior band under the direction of Dallas Lafleur in the high school gym.

30 Years Ago Pea Ridge Country Times Vol. 21 No. 49 Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1986

The Pea Ridge School Board will consider a proposed 1988-1989 budget calling for total expenditur­es of $1,769,025, an increase of about 20 percent over the 1987-1988 budget.

A math-a-thon to raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital occupied third through sixth grades at pea Ridge Elementary school. Students who raised over $25 individual­ly included Jeff Spivey, Ryan Hurd, Dewayne Fletcher, Jennifer Pennington, Benji Jarman, Josh Patrick, Latina Neal, Barry London, John Dryden, Aaron David, Christi Morrison, Ronnie Swadley, Angela Walker, Cindy Johnson, Erica Williams and Kim Walker.

20 Years Ago The TIMES of Northeast Benton County Vol. 31 No. 49 Thursday, Dec. 5, 1996

The home of Paul and Judy Erwin was on the annual Pea Ridge Christmas Tour of Homes set for Sunday. Other homes include the home of Rick and Chris Hardwicke, Kay Lynn Place; Glen and Sonya Bookout, Kay Lynn Drive; Robert and Kathleen Everett, Ryan Road; and Donny and Lora Garner, Easterling Road.

Service for a Barry County, Mo., deputy who was shot to death while answer a call on Nov. 27 was held Sunday in the Cassville High School gym. Christophe­r Lee Casteter, 29, died at 1:08 a.m. on Thanksgivi­ng day after being shot Wednesday night while investigat­ing a suspicious vehicle.

Icy roads contribute­d to at least one accident in the Pea Ridge are this weekend, but there were several to keep police officers busy.

Icy weather postponed the Pea Ridge Christmas parade which will be at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Pea Ridge’s Sara Ash and Kellie Keene were among the students from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, who were honored with 13 awards at the Arkansas State Kenned Center American College Theatre Festival in Conway.
