For the first time in its 117-year history, the city of Pea Ridge now has a city hall.
Congressman John Paul Hammerschmidt, Representative Third District Arkansas, will be the principal speaker at the Lincoln Day Dinner to be held in Bentonville’s Thomas Jefferson School Feb. 11.
Fred Abbott and A. A. Douglas announce their purchase of Bottles Grocery Store in Pea Ridge, effective Jan. 3. The new owners assumed immediate management of the business.

The Blackhawk senior boys held off a strong second-half comeback effort by Farmington to take a 4844 victory in the consolation finals of the Greenland Invitational Saturday night.
The Pea Ridge Planning Commission voted to hold a public hearing on a proposal to rezone a large block of property in the city from residential to commercial.
A new cashier and a new board member were elected by the board of directors of the Bank of Pea Ridge. The new cashier is Mrs. Barbara Owen of Pea Ridge and the new board member is Jim Walton of Bentonville.

Republican State Representative Tim Hutchinson has strongly criticized a tax reform proposal sent to the legislature last week by Governor Bill Clinton.
Benton County Judge A.E. “Al” Norwood said Monday he would go to Little Rock this week to lobby against a proposed state statute requiring counties and municipalities to provide workman’s compensation insurance for volunteer firemen within their jurisdictions. Youth Bridge is seeking caring, concerned community members who are interested in learning more about foster parenting troubled youth.

The Benton County Friends of the Animals has purchased 24 acres on Coller Lane in Bentonville as a site for a Humane Society complex.
The Dabbs twins have moved their businesses to a new location.

Ice-laden trees in Benton County —both hardwood and evergreen — bowed deeply as though in homage to winter beneath the weight of glistening crystals.
McDonald County, Mo., was hard hit with the ice storm. Allen hadn’t been able to lay in much wood, so they installed a heat and AC unit to carry the load while he was laid up after back surgery.
