The Farmers Market launched its season with a great start and beautiful weather on Sunday.

Heavy rains pummeled the area two days before the market opened but organizers were rewarded with a sunny Sunday and a great crowd of customers.

“We had four vendors, but a good assortment,” said Pea Ridge Farmers Market organizer Carol Roper.

The market featured McGarrah strawberries; tomato plants, herb plants and spinach from a new vendor; pork, beef and eggs from J.D. Hudson; and spinach and curly kale, and jams and jellies from Heritage Gardens.

Another vendor also brought produce for the market and will bring more next Sunday.

Roper is optimistic about the season and appreciative of the great response shown so far.

“Thank you to all the people who came to see us. It was a good beginning to our new season,” she said.

The market will showcase

produce and other items again this Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 197 Slack St.

The market is proud to feature a variety of items, including produce from McGarrah Farms. Dennis McGarrah and other staff members participate in various farmers markets, including the Pea Ridge Farmers Market. Strawberries and pumpkins are their main focus, with pick-yourown strawberries now and a pumpkin patch in the fall. Their farms are in Lowell and Pea Ridge.

Roper is eager to share great items with the community and looks forward to a bountiful season. Going forward, the market will be open every Sunday. If a sufficient number of vendors can be secured for Thursdays, the market may be open on those days as well.
