Sidney Kay Bender

Sidney Kay Bender, 72, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017. She was born in Bentonvill­e,

Ark., June

2, 1944, to

Sidney and

Mary Grayce

Hogue Mullins.

A 1962 honor graduate from Rogers High School, she was quick-witted and known for a sharp tongue. She was a fixture in the area, running a shirt shop in Bentonvill­e and well recognized for her astounding artistic talents which included art lessons, painting, quilting, doll making and sewing. She loved to spend time listening to music, watching birds and especially overfeedin­g her dog, Ned. Most of all, she was a dedicated wife and loving mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Melinda Gay Mullins; and one brother, Steve Mullins.

Survivors are her high school sweetheart and husband of 54 years, Jim Bender; her loyal dog, Ned; daughter, Niki Spitzer and son, Mike Bender, both of Bentonvill­e; four grandchild­ren, Ashlynn, Kayla, Katie and Breanne; four sisters, Joyce Stanfield of Springdale, Ark., Janie Allridge of Pea Ridge, Ark.,Vicki Morris of Pea Ridge, Debbie Patterson of Oklahoma; three brothers, Donnie Mullins of Ohio, John Mullins of Oklahoma and Ronald Mullins of Pea Ridge; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

A private family service was held Thursday, May 18, 2017.

Visitation followed the funeral service and lasted until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Benton County Funeral Home.

Memorial service was held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday; May 23, 2017, in Benton County Funeral Home, 306 North 4th Street, Rogers, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributi­ons be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Associatio­n or the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n, Arkansas Chapter.

The family also asks that you spend time with your children, take a walk with your loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendship­s lifelong and beyond.

Joseph Charles Dixon

Joseph Charles Dixon, 74, of Rogers, Ark., died Wednesday, May 17, 2017. He was born Sept. 12, 1942, in Baton Rouge, La., to Johnny Freddie Dixon and Estelle Louise Jefferies Dixon.

He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling and football on TV and the time he shared with his family. He was a hard-working man, often with three jobs at a time to provide for his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Johnny “Dickie” Dixon.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Rosa Dixon; daughter, Melissa Morrison (Michael Staggs) of Rogers; two sons, Joe Dixon (Dee) of Louisiana and Rickey Dixon of Rogers; brother, James Dixon (Mary) of Pea Ridge, Ark.; three sisters, Margaret Rojas of Rogers and Peggy Hampton and Patricia Rivette (Ronald), both of Louisiana; nine grandchild­ren; two great-grandchild­ren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Arrangemen­ts were under the care of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.

James Mitchell ‘Mitch’ Alexander

James Mitchell “Mitch” Alexander, 57, of Garfield, Ark., died Monday, May 15, 2017, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonvill­e, Ark. He was born Jan.23, 1960, at High Point, N. C., to William Alexander and Peggy Williams Alexander.

He was a handyman and was self-employed installing tile and flooring. He enjoyed riding his Harley with his friends, being with his family and friends and helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are one son, Jeremy Alexander of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; the love of his life for the past 17 years, Carolyn Wall of the home; one brother, David Alexander of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two half-brothers, Jimmy Hilger of Centerton, Ark., and Donald Cope of North Carolina; and three grandchild­ren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the NEBCO Community Room in Garfield.

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Marguerite McAllister

Elizabeth “Betty” Marguerite McAllister, 86, died May 20, 2017.

She was born

June 25, 1930, in Elizabeth, N.J., to Andrew

Herbert Frim and Beatrice

Edna Dimmick Frim.

She graduated from Wellsville Central H.S. in Wellsville, N.Y., in 1947. She married Don A. McAllister in Wellsville on April 30, 1949. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. They moved from Wellsville to Prescott, Ariz., in 1952, then moved to West Fork, Ark., in 1956, then to Springdale, Ark., until settling in Pea Ridge, Ark., in 1966.

She was very accomplish­ed, starting out as secretary to Judge Bill Enfield then moving to executive secretary to the vice president at Cooper Communitie­s in Bella Vista, Ark. Then she joined Walmart where she was appointed editor of the “Walmart World” newspaper. From there she went to work at the Head Start Program in Rogers, Ark., as secretary to the renowned “Dr. Spock,” all the while living on a cattle ranch and being a devoted wife and wonderful mother to three sons. She enjoyed raising flowers, watching birds, crocheting and was an avid reader. She also took joy in baking birthday cakes for everyone in her family and doing crossword puzzles. Her biggest highlight of the year was having the entire family over to her house for Christmas Eve, which was a great party with good eats and presents for everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Don McAllister Jr.; her sister, Ruthie Cornelious; a grandson, Jeffery Smith; and daughter-in-law, Patsy Clanton McAllister.

Survivors are her husband Don; two sons, Case McAllister and Connie Colgrove and Mark McAllister and Ave McAllister; six grandchild­ren, Trish Woods of Cave Springs, Ark., Jeremy (Ronna) McAllister, Mike McAllister, Cory (Laura) McAllister, Tommy McAllister, and Joshua (Kolla) Bunting, all of Pea Ridge; 16 great-grandchild­ren, Alexis, Mason, Kelsey, Kasey, Clancey, Cameron, Maggie, Clinton, Tristen, Joshua Clyde, Elijah, Michael, Gabriel, Madison, Hayden and Weston; her friends, Billy and Janet Williams and family; and two nieces Andrea and Nettie.

Honorable mentions to Trinity McAllister, Tessa Reyna and family, Sharon Dixon McAllister, and Jackie “Nora” Hays, who are all dear to her.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the funeral home.

Service was 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Sisco Funeral Home Chapel in Pea Ridge.

Burial was at Dent Cemetery.
