MCGEE: Track & field gears up
Diamond ’Hawks build identical 9-3 marks
The boys baseball teams as well as the girls softball squads have compiled solid won/loss records in the early going, with both units ringing up 9-3 records.
While the girls were idle during spring break, as far as official games were concerned, the boys were active. The ’Hawks went up into Missouri for three games over a two-day period, taking two of the three contests. After getting past the Purdy Eagles 7-5, they were downed by the Pierce City Eagles 22-9. John King’s boys came back the next day to hang a 20-0 drubbing on the East Newton Patriots.
The first state rankings came out for the season with the girls cracking the top 10, in the seventh position. The girls are also the second ranked team in the North Region behind Pottsville, and are the highest ranked team in the 4A-1 District. They are also currently the only unbeaten team in the 4A-3A Conference.
The boys are ranked 13th in the 4A baseball rankings and are ranked sixth in the North Region. Currently the third ranked team in the 4A-1 District, the boys are one of three teams who have yet to lose a game in conference play.
This week, the boys have a full schedule coming up with games these past two days with Green Forest and Elkins, while having a game with Gravette Thursday. I believe the ’Hawks will heading over to Harrison for another tournament this Friday and Saturday, and then there is the big conference showdown with Shiloh Monday. The game with Elkins Tuesday and the one with the private school boys will go a long way to settle the conference championship for 2018.
