Residents, former residents and friends of Pea Ridge are invited to bring a picnic basket and share in the second annual Pea Ridge Community Picnic Saturday, May 27, during Memorial weekend holidays at Pea Ridge City Park. The picnic culminates a Promote the Park Month during May, as proclaimed by Mayor Carl J. Carter. Last year, during Memorial weekend, the new City Park was dedicated in ceremonies held in conjunction with the first community

picnic at the site. The nearly 10-acre park contains more than 100 mature trees. Located on Ark. Hwy. 265 (Jacket Road) one mile northwest of the stoplight, the park is considered by many to be an unusually beautiful setting.

Forty-three graduates will receive diplomas in commencement exercises at 8 p.m. Friday at the Pea Ridge High School gymnasium. The program will include recognizing students who have achieved various academic honors and those who have received scholarships and other awards. The valedictorian is Robin McGuire and salutatorian is Kathy Mendenhall.

A summer driver education program will begin June 5 at Pea Ridge High School. Students 14 years of age or older are eligible to enroll. The cost of the course is $30. Anyone interested in taking the course should contact coach Ray Hoback at the high school. The course will include 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind the wheel experience. Students will receive one-half unit of high school credit. Many insurance companies offer a 10 per cent discount on premiums for a student with driver education training.
