EVENTS Shiloh Museum Summer Camps

Openings are still available for the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History’s summer camps for children. Campers will explore the decades of the 1900s through the 1940s. Camp is based on the shaded grounds of the museum. Snacks are provided for both camps; lunch is provided for campers attending Session II.

Session I, for ages 7-10, takes place June 18–22 from 9–11:30 a.m. Cost is $30 for museum members; $40 for nonmembers.

Session II, for ages 11-14, takes place July 9-13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $45 for museum members; $55 for nonmembers.

Urban Goat Tending Workshop

Greedy Goats of Northwest Arkansas will hold a workshop on urban goattendin­g, Saturday, July 21, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Session One, from 9 to 10 a.m., will focus on the basics of small-scale goat raising, including breeds, anatomy, goat psychology, diet, fencing, housing, and city ordinances.

Session Two, from 11 a.m. to noon, will focus on nutrition, health, hygiene, breeding and milking.

Both sessions will be led by Greedy Goats owners Connie Rieper-Estes and Jason Estes. Cost is $10 per session. Space is limited; preregistr­ation by June 30 is encouraged. To register or for informatio­n, call the Shiloh Museum, 750-8165.

Washing Clothes in the Old Days

The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History will explore the old-time chore of doing laundry by hand in a program for kids and families from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16. The program is part of the museum’s Shiloh Saturday series for families.

Kids Fishing Derby

The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History will host a free fishing derby for kids from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in Murphy Park Pond in Springdale. Kids of all ages are invited to bring a fishing pole and bait and try their luck at catching some of the 200 channel catfish that will be stocked in Murphy Park Pond by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Registrati­on begins at 1:30 p.m. at the park pavilion. Participan­ts 16 and over must have a valid Arkansas fishing license. All who register will be eligible for

prizes.

Harmonial Vegetarian Society

Local historian Nancy Feroe will explore the history of an 1850s commune that was located in Benton County during a program entitled, “The Harmonial Vegetarian Society: The Real Story,” at noon Wednesday, June 20, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

MEETINGS AT THE MUSEUM LifeWriter­s

The Northwest Arkansas Sacred Harp Singers will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.
