Jefferson C. Davis: A Soldier in Blue scheduled
Pea Ridge National Military Park Ranger Kerry Jones will give a talk on the life and times of Union General Jefferson Columbus Davis at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. The hour-long presentation will cover Davis’s extraordinary 33-year career in the U.S. Army and his prominent role at the Battle of Pea Ridge. This presentation will take place inside the park visitor center auditorium. Seating is limited. For information, call 479-4518122 ext. 1227.
Artillery program slated
Pea Ridge National Military Park will conduct Civil War artillery programs on Saturday, Aug. 18. Artillery demonstrations are scheduled for 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. behind the park visitor center. Pea Ridge NMP will be conducting these programs throughout the summer and early fall. Pea Ridge National Military Park preserves and commemorates the March 7-8, 1862, battle that helped Union forces maintain physical and political control of the state of Missouri. Elkhorn Tavern closed
Officials at the Pea Ridge National Military Park announced the temporary closure of Elkhorn Tavern for much needed rehabilitation work.
The tavern, which is a reconstruction, will be closed through the remainder of the year with an anticipated completion of Jan. 1, 2019. Work will include rebuilding the upper and lower porches, new wooden siding, improvements for accessibility on the entrance and interior doors, accessibility for walkways, interior wall improvements and a new roof.
