The following announcement is released this week by Jim Talbot, president of the Bank of Pea Ridge: The Bank of Pea Ridge is placed to announce the addition of Richard Beaver and L.E. Hardy to the Board of Directors of the bank.
Benton County Judge Ralph Bolain of Pea Ridge was sworn in by Circuit Judge Bill Enfield. Watching the ceremony were Doris Webb Searcy of Bentonville, a Pea Ridge High School graduate, who serves in the county treasurer’s office; and Mary Lee Adams of Pea Ridge, a deputy in the county collector’s office.

County Judge A.E. Norwood declined a $1,000 grant from Gov. Bill Clinton when he learned it was illegal without approval from the Quorum Court. The money was for volunteer fire departments and their assistance during the summer drought of 1980.
Mitchell Webb, Pea Ridge, chairman of the Benton County Conservation District announced an election March 3 for three directors for the district.
New recorder and mayor for Pea Ridge when the mayor is absent is Lee Otis Hall. He was sworn into office New Year’s day by Mayor Lester Hall.
Avoca Mayor Gary Blackburn swore into office a new council Tuesday night and the council heard an explanation of quarry blasting problems to be faced, the story of the resolution of a fencing problem and voted to contribute $200 to the Benton County Youth Services Bureau.

Pea Ridge United Fund secretary Freida Crabtree said the board allocated funding for 1991 to the Boy Scouts, $1,450; Little League, $7,500; Beta Alpha Sorority, $1,000; Pea Ridge Band Boosters, $2,000; and Girl Scouts, $2,500.
Pea Ridge and Garfield area Girl Scouts will take orders for cookies between Friday and Jan. 20, said Girl Scout leader Sheila Rizzio of Pea Ridge, who said there are more than 50 Girl Scouts in the Pea Ridge and Garfield area.
The president of the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce said the organization is exploring the possibility of using the Pea Ridge School’s new media center for adult education classes.

This Pea Ridge newspaper observed its 35th birthday Monday. Its birth and early years were recorded in the Jan. 6, 1988, issue by Billie Jines. “It was born Jan. 1, 1966, ushered into the world by James (Jim) and Marge Edgemon. Then known as the Pea Ridge Graphic, the paper was published that first year by the Edgemons and their teen-age children in the basement of their home in Springdale.”
Like an oasis rising from the desert sands, Ozark Outreach offers help and hope to all who need it. Started in 1981 by Iva and Jerry Roberts, the organization’s building is in rural northeastern Benton County.
Snow remaining from Dec. 13 was covered with ice that fell on Christmas Day. Snow flurries Friday and on New Year’s Day topped snow and ice with more light, dry snow. Warmer weather was predicted for Thursday.
