50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Vol. 9 No. 16 Wednesday, April 17, 1974

For the first time in the history of Pea Ridge Public Schools, the entire Pea Ridge School system now is “A” rated.

In a session that lasted less than 30 minutes Thursday night, the Pea Ridge City Council read, corrected and then re-read the minutes of the last meeting; heard the mayor scan the month’s financial statements; heard a brief discussion of street work and sewer tax, voted to finance a special census here; approved the paying of bills; and heard a discussion on the sewer tax.

The consensus coming out of last week’s meeting here on priorities for county roads seemed to be that improvemen­t of State Hwy. 265 is most important to this part of the county.

In its efforts to establish firm funding for operations, the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County board of directors Monday night discussed the possibilit­y of establishi­ng an ambulance service improvemen­t district to provide a tax base.

Rehiring of all the certified teachers was approved by the Pea Ridge School Board at last Thursday night’s meeting.

The Moving Wall, a halfsize replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be in Rogers May 1-7.

Charles Vinson of Pea Ridge helped to run CCC camps in the mid-1930s. For most of you, who weren’t alive then, CCC stands for the Civilian Conservati­on Corps. It put more than 300,000 young, single men to work when they could not find work and provided money for their families.

The two candidates for Benton County judge offered rival visions Friday for the office they seek. County Judge Gary D. Black and challenger Leo E. Lynch both addressed the regular meeting of the Republican Men of Benton County.
