TAKING A MOMENT

-

A Badr Brigade militia soldier mourns Thursday along the Tigris River in the palace compound of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in Tikrit, Iraq. Government forces continue to locate the corpses of up to 1,700 soldiers who where reportedly executed last year by Islamic State fighters when they captured Tikrit, with many shot and pushed into the river and others put into mass graves. Government troops and allied Shia militia retook Tikrit earlier this month with the aid of U.S. airstrikes, and they continue to push Islamic State fighters out of the area.
