Motorcycle tourism company rolling into town to offer rentals, guided rides

- By Carole Gilbert Brown

With its restaurants, cultural offerings, churches, shops and location on Chartiers Creek near the Parkway West, Carnegie has long been a draw for Pittsburgh area residents.

In June, the town will have another attraction.

EagleRider Inc., a motorcycle tourism and rental company, will open for business at the former Wright's used car lot at 500 E. Main St.

"It's the first thing you see when you come into Carnegie," owner Richard Hagerty of Collier told elected officials April 13. He added that the site is visible from the Parkway. "We already have reservations coming in, and we aren't even open yet."

Founded in 1992 by four California men with a fleet of Harley-Davidson bikes, EagleRider rents a variety of motorcycle makes and models and offers guided motorcycle tours.

Riders can rent a motorcycle in one city, take a guided tour and drop the bike off at an EagleRider location in another town.

Most EagleRider operations offer shuttle pickup from hotels and airports, locked storage for luggage, free parking and motorcycle service, apparel and accessories. Helmets for riders and passengers are provided, too.

The company also arranges biker tours. Mr. Hagerty noted that the Appalachian mountains are a big draw.

A Pittsburgh website for the company is being developed, and signs are expected to go up in mid-May at the East Main Street

location.

“Carnegie really appeals to me,” Mr. Haggerty said. “It's 14 minutes from the airport and has hotels. It's going to bring people in."

Carnegie council President Pat Catena said, “Your business fits in with the image we're trying to create. It's a destination attraction."
