Teams, camps available

- — Jack Kelly

The Community for Pittsburgh Ultimate sponsors leagues, tournaments and camps for Ultimate Frisbee players ages 7 through high school.

Growth has been substantial since the organization was formed in 1995. There were only a handful of teams in the Pittsburgh High School Ultimate League when it was formed in 2001. Now about 800 play on more than 40 teams, said Christie Lawry, Pittsburgh Ultimate executive director.

Another 800 adults play in seasonal recreational leagues, and about 400 children and youths attend camps sponsored by Pittsburgh Ultimate.

The Summer League features coed teams (five men, two women) 18 years and older who’ll play on Monday and Wednesday nights in June, July and August, chiefly in North Park. Registration closes May 5. The registration fee is $65 — $55 before Friday.

Players get a Frisbee, a jersey and an invite to an end-of-season barbecue. For more information, email summer@pittsburghultimate.com

There also will be a Summer Casual League at the South Park Fairgrounds on Thursday nights for men and women 15 and older. The registration fee is $55 — $45 if you are a new player. Registration closes June 1.

Four weeklong camps for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 will be conducted at various locations beginning June 15. Camp will begin at 9 a.m., conclude at 3:30 p.m. The registration fee is $250 or $300, depending on the venue.

The Elite Ultimate Academy for boys and girls ages 14 to 18 will be conducted at Slippery Rock University from Sunday, July 19, to Friday, July 24. The fee is $750 for players who stay overnight, $600 for daytime campers.
