Cardinals 5, Brewers 3: St. Louis lost ace Adam Wainwright to an ankle injury, and then got a boost from Mitch Harris that helped the visiting Cardinals beat Milwaukee. Wainwright was helped from the field by a trainer after injuring his left ankle while stumbling out of the batter’s box on his popup to first leading off the fifth.
Mets 8, Yankees 2: Matt Harvey (4-0) finished one out shy of a complete game leading the visiting Mets past the crosstown rival Yankees. Kevin Plawecki hit his first major league home run and drove in three runs, and Lucas Duda and Eric Campbell also connected off CC Sabathia (0-4).
Marlins 8, Nationals 0: Tom Koehler outpitched Stephen Strasburg, and Giancarlo Stanton homered and revitalized Miami earned its fourth win in a row by beating visiting Washington. Defending NL East champion Washington (7-11) endured its fourth consecutive defeat and fell into a tie for third place with the surging Marlins.
Astros 9, Athletics 3: Houston star Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer and extended his hitting streak against Oakland to 28 games, helping the visiting Astros beat the Athletics. Jed Lowrie drove in two runs and George Springer homered for the Astros (10-7), who have won six of seven.
Tigers 4, Indians 1: Victor Martinez drove in three runs, taking advantage after Cleveland pitched around Miguel Cabrera, helping Alfredo Simon and Detroit beat the visiting Indians. Cabrera drew four walks in a game for the first time in his career, three of them intentional.
Braves 5, Phillies 2: Andrelton Simmons led off the seventh inning with a homer, sparking a rally that helped visiting Atlanta beat Philadelphia. The Braves scored three runs in the seventh and chased David Buchanan (0-4) while snapping a fourgame losing streak.
Rays 4, Blue Jays 2: Tim Beckham hit a tiebreaking double during a three-run eighth as Tampa Bay won its fourth game in a row by beating visiting Toronto. Ernesto Frieri (1-1) struck out all three batters he faced for the win. Brad Boxberger pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
