Action ready to heat up at PA Motor Speedway

- DJ JOHNSON

Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway will play host to back-toback events Saturday and Sunday at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile near Imperial.

Saturday, PPMS plays host to the Hill International Trucks Jook George Precise RUSH Late Model Steel City Classic 50 Sizzler. The 50-lap event for the RUSH Late Models will be a battle for $12,000 in prize money. All divisions will be in action with gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing starting at 7.

The UNOH All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Car Series returns to PPMS Sunday to close out the weekend.

Dale Blaney won the Don Martin Silver Cup earlier this month at Lernerville and leads Cody Darrah by 169 points in the chase for the UNOH All Star sprint title.

Darrah, of Red Lion, Pa., won the second 30-lap WoO feature at Lernerville and has battled Blaney on the UNOH All Star trail all season. Darrah believes that because Tony Stewart bought the All Stars earlier this year, the All Stars will continue to put on competitive races.

“Every week this All Stars series gets better and better,” Darrah said. “For us [Darrah and Blaney], winning World of Outlaws races just proves that there is good competition out here from the All Stars. Because of Tony Stewart, the All Stars are going to continue to grow and it’s going to be a kind of cool series to race with.”

Blaney swept the series weekend events in Michigan and Wisconsin, giving the five-time and defending All Star champ nine wins in 2015.

Besides Blaney and Darrah, former four-time champ, Chad Kemenah has moved up to third in points followed by other former champs Greg Wilson and Tim Shaffer.

Caleb Helms and Danny Holtgraver are scheduled to rejoin the series this weekend.

Racing begins at 6 p.m. Sunday at PPMS as the RUSH Late Models and the Late Model Sportsman also will be featured.
