Email scandal deepens anger over campaign
PHILADELPHIA — Supporters of Bernie Sanders took to the streets outside the Democratic National Convention. They booed Democrat Hillary Clinton’s name during the opening invocation. They even jeered when Mr. Sanders himself called for unity in the campaign against Republican Donald Trump.
But that was before Mr. Sanders worked to rein in the passions of his followers later in the day Monday.
Objections could get louder, with a pro-Sanders group saying there is considerable support for noisily objecting to the Democratic ticket from the convention floor later this week. But Mr. Sanders got a huge buildup from several speakers, a music video introduction, and thunderous cries of “Bernie” when he took the stage at 10:50 p.m. At the least the full limelight shining on him gave him some measure of the platform he had sought after being defeated by Hillary Clinton in the primaries.
