Event to showcase local opportunities

Ohio Township will hold its first Health and Fitness Showcase on Saturday to let people know about some of the fitness opportunities that exist locally.

“Really, our main goal is to help people to lead healthier lives,” said Andy Rubino, director of the township’s parks and recreation department, which teamed up with Condition Your Life Fitness to hold the event in Ohio Township Community Park.

“A lot of times, there’s an initial hesitation to take a new fitness class or to try out a new gym, so we’ve decided to host this free event to expose newcomers to the options that are out there,” he said.

The event, from 9 a.m. to noon, is open to the public and will include classes and demos for fitness activities such as boot camp, power yoga, boxing and dance. Local health and fitness vendors will be on site to share information, and free educational seminars will be held.

“We’re trying to make it easier to connect the people who offer these classes and services to the people who may be interested in using those services, all in a nonintimidating, fun atmosphere,” Mr. Rubino said.

Township officials hope to make the showcase a yearly event, adding more vendors, classes and seminars. They also will consider donating vendor proceeds to a local charity in the future, Mr. Rubino said.

Ohio Township Community Park is at 325 Nicholson Road.
