Jury finds Rankin man guilty in fatal shooting

A jury on Friday found a Rankin man guilty of second-degree murder in a 2014 shooting in Hawkins Village.

Jake Knight, 21, was convicted of killing Lee Williams inside a residence at the housing developmen­t April 10, 2014.

Witnesses said two men broke into the house before 9 p.m. and shot Mr. Williams. Police said one of the witnesses recognized Knight’s voice, and he was later picked out of a photo lineup.

Police have never identified the second suspect.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Edward J. Borkowski scheduled sentencing for Nov. 17. Seconddegr­ee murder carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole.

Authoritie­s identify man found dead in car trunk

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office has identified a man found dead in May in the trunk of a car that had been set on fire in a Penn Hills alley.

Deven Henry Clark, 32, of the East End, was identified through his DNA, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Mr. Clark’s body was found after authoritie­s responded to a car fire about 1:15 a.m. May 27 in Jackson Alley. Police said Mr. Clark was in the trunk of the car wrapped in cloth and possibly bound in duct tape.

The medical examiner’s office has not released a cause or manner of death, but Allegheny County Police were treating the death as a homicide.
