A North Versailles man has been arrested on charges that he gunned down a 19-year-old in Wilkinsburg this week.

James Davis, 29, faces charges of homicide, tampering with evidence and a gun violation in the death Monday of Antonio Troutman.

Wilkinsburg police were called to the 100 block of Peebles Street, near a Wendy’s restaurant, about 11:20 a.m. Monday after someone called 911 to report hearing gunshots.

Police found Mr. Troutman in a parking lot across the street from the restaurant. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Later Monday, a witness went to the Wilkinsburg police station in a car that had been damaged by bullets. Police on Friday spoke to the driver, who said Mr. Davis had been in the back seat of the car when it was targeted, according to a police affidavit.

The witness said that on Monday he parked the car on Peebles Street and got out, leaving Mr. Davis alone in the back seat, the affidavit said.

Soon after that the witness said he heard “a loud bang” and the car horn blasting.

When the witness returned to the car, he said, Mr. Davis yelled something like, “They are shooting — we have to get out of here,” the affidavit said.

Mr. Davis told the witness that two men he didn’t know tried to get into the car, and one of them had a gun, according to the affidavit.

Mr. Davis said he shot one of them, the witness told investigators.
