No. 9 IUP rolls past Edinboro

Crimson Hawks cruise in PSAC West opener

Sto-Rox High School graduate Lenny Williams was nearly perfect and the IUP defense pitched a first-half shutout Saturday to help the ninth-ranked Crimson Hawks thump host Edinboro, 56-28, as both teams opened PSAC West play.

Williams completed 12 of 14 passes for 207 yards and was one of three players to rush for two touchdowns for IUP (3-0). Walt Pegues caught seven passes for 169 yards and a score and Samir Bullock rushed for 153 yards.

Jordan Williams had eight catches for 121 yards and a touchdown, but Edinboro (3-1) was outrushed, 33585, and lost its first game under new coach Justin Lustig.

IUP scored a touchdown on its first four possession­s and led, 35-0, at halftime.

Through three games, Williams has rushed for 189 yards and five touchdowns while passing for 739 yards and six more scores. for 370 yards and three touchdowns as the No. 10 Rock (4-0, 3-1) took care of the Golden Knights (3-1, 0-1) at home in a PSAC West opener.

California 59, Seton Hill 17: Michael Keir was 19 of 31 for 311 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Vulcans (3-0) past the host Griffins (3-1) in both teams’ PSAC West opener.

Clarion 35, Mercyhurst 34: The Golden Eagles (2-2, 1-0 PSAC West) scored four consecutiv­e touchdowns from midway through the third quarter to midway through the fourth and earned a win at the Lakers (1-3, 0-1). Steel Valley’s Delrece Williams, who holds the WPIAL’s single-season rushing record, ran for 202 yards.

Thomas More 20, Carnegie Mellon 16: Standout running back Sam Benger was held to just 55 yards on the ground, but the Tartans (1-2, 1-1 Presidents’ Athletic Conference) still had a chance to upset the No. 18 Saints (3-1, 2-0) on the road until a late intercepti­on.

Saint Vincent 57, Grove City 32: Derek Stewart was 28 of 38 passing for 442 yards and a PAC recordtyin­g seven touchdowns to lead the host Bearcats (4-0, 2-0 PAC) past the Wolverines (0-4, 0-2). Jeannette’s Shavonta Craft had 116 yards of offense and two touchdowns, while Thomas Jefferson’s Dalton Dietrich caught 10 passes for 151 yards and three scores.
