FALL FASHION HARVEST

WHAT’S IN SEASON FROM PITTSBURGH BOUTIQUES, DESIGNERS

- By Sara Bauknecht

As nature prepares for autumn, prep your wardrobe with the latest crop of trends to make its way from the runways of New York and Europe to a retailer near you.

In addition to the usual staples, fall fashion embraces some old favorites with a fresh perspective. Warm up with statement outerwear and chic leisure pieces. And don’t forget the accessories! Their earthy beauty will bring to mind an October sunset.

So curl up with a pumpkin spice latte and take a look at what’s in season at local boutiques and from Pittsburgh-based designers.

Nestled in comfort

Feeling cozy has never looked better, thanks to flattering casual wear so comfy you’ll swear you’re wearing a blanket or your favorite pair of sweats.

Kelly Daugherty (above left) is in a Julliard pocketed pullover in a Museo print by Effie’s Heart ($73) and Colimalhas stretch leggings ($79). Brandy Franklin wears a distressed drape dress ($53) and jacket ($69) from Others Follow with Flush necklace and earring set ($19). Shop these selections Downtown at Boutique la Passerelle, 417 Wood St.

Earthy embellishments

Accessories give a nod to nature with muted palettes, geodes strung from leather cords and vibrant crystals. Hats follow suit in taupes, browns and beiges, accented with a mix of natural trims. Don’t worry about adding too many extras to an outfit. It’s all about detail.

Fur felt floppy Chloe hat (right) with braided suede lace detail ($230) by Gina Mazzotta Millinery (ginamazzotta.com; showroom at 100 Fifth Ave., Suite 405, Downtown); Strong Tones five-stone necklace ($159) and anniversary marquis choker ($298) by Sabika (sabika-jewelry.com); beaded leather necklace with stone and fringe tassel ($104) from Serendipity Accessories at 10 Old Clairton Road, Suite 3, Pleasant Hills.

Autumn blues

This year, fall is singing the blues.

Denim, aqua, teal, sapphire, navy and other cool shades join autumnal hues such as pumpkin, rust and sage as the go-to colors of the season.

Spice up the shade with a flirty print or a sultry silhouette, such as the Diane von Furstenberg Ivena jumpsuit in chevron blue dots ($698) on Brandy (right). Also shown: Luxury Wig figurative black sunglasses ($180), Ela Rae New York City choker ($128) and Penelope 42-inch pyrite silk fossil and diamond necklace ($998). Find these pieces at Kristi Boutique, 339 First St., Aspinwall.

Cool and crisp

Stand out with separates that command attention. Bomber and moto jackets are having a moment, as well as anything leather. Even a stark white shirt with dark-wash jeans can make an impact when worn with the right attitude.

Ripe for revival

Styles from the past resurface for fall with fresh twists, including designs from multiple decades. Suede and a groovy vest from the ’70s go perfectly with a soft buttondown Victorian blouse, while flowy Boho frocks find new life with bold accessories.

Kelly (left) is in suede laceup shorts ($58), a Brighid on the Moors blouse ($68) and a chocolate suede fringe vest with gold stud details ($48). Both looks are from Juju, a vintage clothing boutique at 6739 Reynolds St. in Point Breeze.
