Clemson RB had retaliation on his mind after a ‘dirty’ hit

-

Clemson running back Wayne Gallman said the hit by N.C. State defensive back Dravious Wright Oct. 15 was “dirty” and he wanted a teammate to retaliate.

Gallman said Monday that after he watched a replay of the hit that he had hoped his teammates would have hurt Wright. Gallman went through concussion protocol in the team’s off week and expects to practice Monday and to play Saturday when the third-ranked Tigers take on No. 12 Florida State.

Gallman did not remember anything after Wright’s first-quarter hit until he was in the trainer’s room several minutes later. When he saw a replay, Gallman was certain the Wolfpack defensive back’s hit — which looked like a helmet-to-helmet blow although no penalty was assessed — was intentional.

The third-ranked Tigers (7-0, 4-0) visit the Seminoles (5-2, 2-2) in an ACC showdown.

Linebacker Jack Cichy, the leading tackler for No. 11 Wisconsin, will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle. The injury is the latest setback for a defense that has weathered adversity to remain one of the stingiest units in Football Bowl Subdivision. The Badgers (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) are ranked second in scoring defense (14.3 points) and third in total defense (300.6 yards). They play No. 7 Nebraska Saturday night at Camp Randall Stadium. Cichy go hurt near the end of the first half of the 17-9 win Saturday against Iowa. Cichy hit the turf then slid out of bounds after tackling Iowa running back Akrum Wadley.

The Bulldogs’ two leading tacklers will be able to play Saturday against No. 14 Florida after being cleared of marijuana possession. The school announced that inside linebackers Natrez Patrick and Roquan Smith violated no university policies that would require a suspension. Athletic director Greg McGarity says both players passed drug tests. Police were called to Patrick’s dormitory room shortly after an Oct. 15 loss to Vanderbilt. A resident assistant reported the smell of pot, but no drugs were found and neither player was charged.
