Presents for shelter pets

-

It saddens workers and volunteers at animal shelters to see dogs, cats and rabbits that will not have a “furever home” for Christmas and other December holidays. So 10 Beaver County businesses are working with the Beaver County Humane Society to make sure there are presents for every animal in the Center Township shelter.

The Presents for Pets program has ornaments on Christmas trees at the shelter and local businesses. Pick an ornament, buy the present listed there and bring it back to the tree. Volunteers will pick up the presents and deliver them to the animals during Christmas week. The ornaments can also be picked up from volunteers at the fountain in the Beaver Valley Mall.

Presents that could bring joy include cat and dog toys without stuffing, especially those nearly indestructible Kong toys. Cats need litter and small litter pans. Rabbits need timothy hay and fresh greens. The shelter needs office supplies, stamps, white copy paper and gift cards to PetSmart, Petco, Wal-Mart, Target and Lowes.

Presents for Pets ornaments are at Agway Beaver in Bridgewater; Beaver Valley Bowl in Rochester; BCTA Maintenance Garage and Brodhead Animal Hospital, both in Center; Caldwell Veterinary Clinic in New Brighton; Cold Noses Grooming and Kennel in Darlington; Health Hut in Chippewa; McMahons Harley Davidson in Beaver Falls; and Soggy Doggy Pet Salon and SouLift Fitness Center, both in Beaver.
