Jets snap four-game slide with 6-3 win vs. Arizona

- By The Associated Press

Ondrej Pavelec made 30 saves in his season debut, and the Winnipeg Jets halted a four-game losing streak with goals from six players in a 6-3 victory against the Arizona Coyotes Wednesday night at MTS Centre in Manitoba, Winnipeg.

It was Pavelec’s first NHL game this season after the veteran goalie was sent to the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose at the end of training camp. Pavelec, 29, was recalled Tuesday to start instead of Connor Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson, who each struggled in the team’s winless skid (0-3-1).

Josh Morrissey, Blake Wheeler, Andrew Copp, Shawn Matthais, Jacob Trouba and Nikolaj Ehlers scored for the Jets, who started a four-game homestand. Mathieu Perreault and Dustin Byfuglien each had a pair of assists.

Arizona’s Mike Smith stopped 29 of the 35 shots he faced before being replaced by Louis Domingue after Winnipeg’s sixth goal midway through the third period.

Domingue made four saves for the Coyotes.

Other game

Red Wings 6, Bruins 5: Thomas Vanek and Frans Nielsen scored in a shootout, lifting host Detroit to a comeback victory against Boston.

The Red Wings rallied from 3-0 and 4-1 deficits in the first period, and with 3:04 remaining in regulation, Gustav Nyquist scored to pull them into a tie.

Notes

Rangers forward Chris Kreider was fined $5,000 for ripping off Dallas Stars forward Cody Eakin’s helmet Tuesday and hitting him in the head with it in a fight. ... Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin will miss at least the next month because of a broken finger. Brodin was hurt Tuesday in the Wild’s loss to New Jersey.
