The pressure is on

‘Outsiders’ characters feel it in season two

A pickup truck full of bottled water and members of the Farrell clan, accompanie­d by Farrelldri­ven ATVs, screech up North Avenue after Big Foster (David Morse, “Treme”) and his fellow Farrells rob a general store.

It’s a scene from episode 12 of season two of WGN America’s “Outsiders” (9 p.m. Tuesday), filmed on a sunny October day in Millvale, which stands in for the show’s Blackburg, Ky.

“We’re raiding the town and not being too discreet about it,” Mr. Morse said between takes. Sort of like robbing the grocery store in the show’s pilot episode last year? “This is on a whole other scale from that. Our interactio­n with the town has really accelerate­d this season.”

Welcome to season two of “Outsiders,” the first time a scripted prime-time hourlong drama has returned to locally film a second season. That’s good news for local actors and crew members, including Mr. Morse’s stand-in, Jeff Healy of Brentwood, who waited on the sidelines while the “first team” — the show’s actors — performed multiple takes of the scene.

“Three years ago I started doing this and it’s great,” said Mr. Healy, a former stay-at-home dad and parttime photograph­er who also served as Mr. Morse’s stand-in on the feature film “Concussion.” “Every time David comes to town I get a call. I want him to move here.”

Over the past year Mr. Healy got calls to work on other projects he had to turn down because of his commitment to “Outsiders.”
