Authorities are searching for a man who violated his parole for a second time following his release after a 30-year federal prison sentence for sending a pipe bomb through the mail.

Randall Douglas McFadden, 62, was supposed to be staying at the Salvation Army on the South Side, but he recently walked away, the U.S. Marshals Service said. The United States Parole Commission on Friday charged McFadden with violating conditions of his parole.

The U. S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force now is looking for McFadden.

This is the second time McFadden has absconded from a residence in violation of his parole since his release from prison.

In October 2015, he walked away from the Renewal Center in Downtown. Authorities found McFadden about a month later at Heritage Valley Beaver, a hospital in Beaver County.

McFadden, who gave hospital officials a fake name, had been living in the woods in Beaver County when he was found by a hunter. McFadden was taken to the hospital to be treated for conditions caused by living outdoors.

McFadden was sentenced to 30 years in a federal prison after attempting to mail a pipe bomb to a woman in New York in 1985. The bomb never made it to its destination — it exploded inside the Warrendale bulk mail center, but no one was injured.

He was also charged with possession of an explosive device while in prison.

McFadden is white, about 5 feet 11 and 150 pounds. A recent photo shows him with shoulderlength brown hair, a white beard, and mustache and glasses.

Anyone with information regarding McFadden is asked to contact the United States Marshals Service at 412-644-6627 or -6628.
