For the fourth year in a row, Allderdice will be going dancing in the PIAA playoffs. The Dragons solidified their spot with a 50-39 win against Altoona in the Class 6A subregiona­l championsh­ip Friday night at Obama Academy.

Senior Jahi Ogbonna scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the second half to lead the Dragons (18-8).

Allderdice was able to break open the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Mountain Lions, 13-5, to take a 2716 lead at the half. Mike Scharf had a game-high 17 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Altoona (11-13).

Allderdice — a PIAA semifinali­st a year ago — will face the Class 6A No. 4 seed from the WPIAL in the first round of the PIAA playoffs next Saturday.

Erie Cathedral Prep 42, Obama 41: Jaryn Simpson’s layup with 19.3 seconds left lifted Erie Cathedral Prep to a victory against Obama Academy in the Class 5A subregiona­l championsh­ip at Allderdice.

Simpson finished with a game-high 15 points for the Ramblers (13-12).

The Eagles (13-10) ended the season losing their final two games by a combined two points. They suffered a 71-70 loss in three overtimes to Allderice in the City League championsh­ip.

Senior Dana Strothers led Obama Academy with 13 points.
