Huskies crush Albany

Connecticu­t shows no mercy in its quest to win title

Napheesa Collier and Gabby Williams didn’t play big roles for Connecticu­t (33-0) on the 2016 national championsh­ip team.

The Huskies forwards sent a message in a 116-55 firstround rout of Albany that they plan to win a fifth consecutiv­e title.

Collier scored 24 points, Williams had 20 and each pulled down 10 rebounds to help the top seed to the program’s 108th consecutiv­e win and 25th win in a row in the NCAA tournament.

Kia Nurse also scored 24 points. The Huskies (33-0), who haven’t lost in the first round since 1993.

Imani Tate had 19 points and Jessica Fequiere scored 16 to lead Albany, which ends the season at 21-12.

“That first three or four minutes of the second half I think kind of ended the game for all intents and purposes,” Connecticu­t coach Geno Auriemma said

Louisville 82, Chattanoog­a 62: Asia Durr scored 27 points to lead the Cardinals (28-7) to an victory against Chattanoog­a (21-11) in Louisville, Ky.

Tennessee 66, Dayton 57: Diamond DeShields scored 24 points to lead fifth-seeded Tennessee (20-11) to a firstround victory against Dayton (22-10) in Louisville.

Baylor 119, Texas Southern 30: Kalani Brown scored 21 points and top-seeded Baylor (31-3) overwhelme­d Texas Southern (23-10) at Waco, Texas.

California 55, LSU 52: Asha Thomas scored 18 points to lead the Golden Bears (20-13) past LSU (2012) in Waco.

Oklahoma 75, Gonzaga 62: Vionise Pierre-Louis had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 blocked shots and Oklahoma (23-9) held off 11th-seeded Gonzaga (26-7) in Seattle.

Washington 91, Montana State 63: Chantel Osahor scored 16 points as Washington (28-5) beat Montana State (25-7) at Seattle.

Kansas State 67, Drake 56: Breanna Lewis had 23 points and Kansas State (2310) beat Drake (28-5) in Manhattan, Kan.

Stanford 72, New Mexico State 64: Alanna Smith had 19 points as Stanford (295) held off the Aggies (24-7) in Manhattan.

Miami 62, Florida Gulf Coast 60: Keyona Hayes scored 16 points and Miami (24-8) rallied to beat Florida Gulf Coast (26-9) in Coral Gables, Fla.

Quinnipiac 68, Marquette 65: Jennifer Fay scored 20 points and Quinnipiac (28-6) held on in a frantic final minute to upset Marquette (25-8) in Coral Gables.
