Giants Posey put on DL with concussion symptoms
Catcher Buster Posey was placed on the seven-day disabled list with concussion symptoms Tuesday, a day after he was struck in the helmet by a 94 mph fastball from Arizona’s Taijuan Walker.
Manager Bruce Bochy said following Monday’s 41 victory that Posey was doing fine, the Giants planned to check in with him overnight and re-evaluate him Tuesday. They weren’t going to take any chances with the 2012 NL MVP and 2010 Rookie of the Year.
“He’s got some symptoms so we’re being cautious,” Bochy said. “We’ll continue to monitor how he’s doing and he’ll stay there until we think he’s ready to play. You just have to be really careful about these things.”
Blue Jays
Josh Donaldson has a sore calf and was not in the lineup for Toronto for its home opener. Manager John Gibbons said, “It’s still hanging around. We’ll see where he’s at tomorrow.” Donaldson, who is batting .348 with two homers and three RBIs, said he was disappointed not to start the home opener but understood the team’s decision.
Mariners
Seattle placed shortstop Jean Segura on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. “It’s a mild strain. I really thought yesterday that he’s just going to miss a couple of days,” manager Scott Servais said. “Trying to be very cautious and be out ahead of this thing.”
Braves
Atlanta outfielder Matt Kemp was put on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to Saturday because of a right hamstring strain.
