Township may get Miracle League field

- By Kim Lawrence

Luke Magulik is the inspiration for a Miracle League field that may be coming to Moon.

Luke, the son of Mike and Christina Magulik of Moon, has a genetic disorder, and his parents got some friends and relatives together to work toward creating a field where those with special needs can play.

The group has formed a board and received approval for the field from The Miracle League national organization. It would be the first such field in the suburbs west of Pittsburgh. Upper St. Clair, Murrysville and Cranberry each have a Miracle League field.

The group would like to create the field in Moon Park and include an adaptive playground with an airport theme, Mr. Magulik said. He said T-ball could be played on the field when it wasn’t being used by children with special needs.

The township would do site preparations and maintain and own the field. The local board for the project would solicit volunteers and donations.

One fundraising idea is to offer bricks that people could have inscribed for a donation, and the bricks would be used in the outfield wall.

The idea was presented to Moon supervisors March 29.

“I think it is a great project,” Supervisior Jim Vitale said.

Supervisor David Bachman said, “It is a blessing for Moon.”
