Man, 23, critically wounded in Wilkinsburg shooting

- By Jonathan D. Silver

Minutes after a 23-year-old man was shot multiple times and critically wounded overnight in Wilkinsburg, an Allegheny County 911 center employee took an unusual call.

It was from the man who said he had pulled the trigger, a police affidavit said.

Gregory A. Comans, 22, of Stowe admitted to the call taker that he had shot Deraun Rouse, according to the affidavit supporting Mr. Comans’ arrest on charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Mr. Comans said he drove away and pulled over on Bates Street at the Parkway East in Oakland, where Pittsburgh police took him into custody early Wednesday morning.

Mr. Comans told police that he was having an argument with Mr. Rouse, who pulled up in a vehicle near him in the 1100 block of Patton Street around midnight and came toward him while yelling, the affidavit said. Police did not disclose the nature of the dispute.

Mr. Comans drew a handgun, ordered Mr. Rouse to stop and then shot into the air,

according to the affidavit.

“Comans said he then shot at Rouse multiple times, and Rouse fell to the ground,” the affidavit said.

Mr. Rouse got up and got behind the wheel of his car.

“Comans said he fired multiple shots again,” the affidavit said, adding that Mr. Comans told police his gun held 20 rounds and he fired until it was empty.

Officers found Mr. Rouse in his SUV at Morrow Street and Craft Avenue, where it had crashed. He had been shot in the shoulder and hip.

Police recovered a .40-caliber Glock handgun from Mr. Comans and found about seven holes in Mr. Rouse’s vehicle, according to the affidavit.

An emergency room doctor told police that Mr. Rouse was in critical but stable condition and would likely survive but would be paralyzed.
