Many shows’ renewals iffy

-

During the week of May 14, the broadcast networks will announce their 2017-18 TV schedules, and with that viewers will learn the fate of TV series that are “on the bubble” — shows with middling ratings that might or might not return.

Plenty of shows that are middle-of-the-road performers already have been renewed, but some remain in the TV equivalent of purgatory.

At ABC, that list includes “American Crime,” “Marvels’ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Secrets and Lies,” “Quantico,” “The Catch,” “The Real O’Neals,” “Dr. Ken” and “Last Man Standing.”

For CBS, the most likely goners are “2 Broke Girls,” “The Amazing Race,” “Code Black,” “Elementary,” “Ransom,” “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders,” “Undercover Boss” and “The Odd Couple.”

The CW seems unlikely to bring back its two new shows from last fall, “Frequency” and “No Tomorrow.”

Fox has a number of series in their second seasons or beyond

Error” deserves to return, but its ratings are in that mucky middle. “Emerald City,” “Taken,” “Timeless” and “The Blacklist: Redemption” may join “Powerless” among the goners.

All will be revealed as each network announces its new schedules on May 14 (NBC), May 15 (Fox), May 16 (ABC), May 17 (CBS) and May 18 (The CW). I’ll post network releases at http://communityvoices.post-gazette.com/artsentertainment
