Spurs lose Parker for rest of playoffs
San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker will miss the rest of the postseason after injuring his left leg in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets. The Spurs said Parker will need surgery to repair a ruptured quadriceps tendon.
With Parker out, backup Patty Mills could move into a starting role, and the Spurs likely will give Kawhi Leonard more ball-handling responsibility.

Utah Jazz starting point guard George Hill missed Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals Thursday against the Golden State Warriors because of left big toe soreness. The injury has lingered throughout the season. Hill has averaged 15.6 points, 3.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds in the playoffs.
Lowry of the Toronto Raptors missed practice because of a sprained left ankle and is questionable for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Auto racing
NASCAR penalized Joey Logano for a rear suspension violation four days after his win at Richmond International Raceway, essentially stripping him of all benefits that came with the Monster Cup Series victory. Logano cannot use the Richmond win as consideration for an automatic playoff spot, and the five playoffs points that come with a victory won’t count if Logano still makes the postseason. The official race record will still list Logano as the winner.
College basketball
A.J. Turner, a 6-foot-7 forward, is transferring to Northwestern after two years at Boston College. He averaged 8.4 points last season. He will sit out next season and have two years of eligibility left.
Pro football
Houston Texans inside linebacker Max Bullough, who appeared in every game last season, was suspended without pay for the first four games in 2017 for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Fourth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain defeated Frederico Ferreira Silva of Portugal, 6-3, 6-4, to reach the quarterfinals of the Estoril Open in Estoril, Portugal. … Third-seeded Barbora Strycova overcame eighth-seeded Katerina Siniakova, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, in an all-Czech quarterfinal at the Prague Open.

A jury in Des Moines, Iowa, awarded more than $1.4 million to Jane Meyer, a former University of Iowa athletic administrator, ruling that the university discriminated against her because of her gender and sexual orientation. Meyer alleged she suffered workplace discrimination as a gay woman in a relationship with the school’s longtime and highly successful field hockey coach Tracey Griesbaum, that the school retaliated against her for complaining about Griesbaum’s firing, and that she was paid less than a male counterpart for similar work.
