Arizona first baseman, Norwin grad one of top hitters in Pac-12

Matijevic is having a terrific junior season with the University of Arizona baseball team. A first baseman, Matijevic entered the week leading the Pac-12 Conference in batting with a .401 average. That was also good for No. 15 in the country. Matijevic, who played at Norwin, hit his seventh home run of the season last Saturday. He also has 22 doubles, 46 RBIs and a .651 slugging percentage for a team that is ranked No. 22 in the country.

Hitting the books at Pennsylvan­ia a breeze for Oakland Catholic grad

Oakland Catholic track and field McCorkle is a junior sprinter at Pennsylvan­ia in the Ivy League, and she holds school records in the 60-, 100and 200-meter dashes. McCorkle, who was a WPIAL champion at Oakland Catholic, was recently named the Hepstrack.com athlete of the week after she won the 100 and finished second in the 200 at the Transatlan­tic Series in Philadelph­ia. A year ago, McCorkle qualified for the NCAA championsh­ip in the 200.

Valparaiso sophomore is 2 for 2 in leading team to Horizon title

Kissell has been at Valparaiso University for two seasons and has helped the tennis team to two consecutiv­e Horizon League championsh­ips. Kissell, a sophomore and a WPIAL and PIAA champion at Latrobe, won a singles match and was part of a doubles win when Valparaiso defeated Cleveland State in the title match of the conference championsh­ip last weekend. Kissell has a 21-11 record in singles matches this season.
