Citing financial pressures, Hill House cuts 3 staffers
Citing financial pressures and an ongoing reorganization, the Hill House Association recently eliminated the positions of three top staff members at the storied Hill District nonprofit.
“We’re committed to making sure we remain a pillar and vital part of the community,” while being in a period of review and assessment, said Clyde Wilson Pickett, chairman of the board.
Although Hill House has eliminated the positions of CEO, another top executive and a human resources position, “the services we provide to the community have not been impacted at all,” he said.
The move aimed to provide stability while “work [ing] on addressing the financial challenges of the organization,” he said. About 30 staff members still work there, he said.
The organization at 1835 Centre Ave., whose history stretches back to the early 1900s, was instrumental in bringing a grocery store to the neighborhood several years ago. It also offers senior services, workforce development programs and a number of other programs.
Jeffrey Anderson, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the organization, could not be reached Wednesday.
Former executive director Cheryl Hall-Russell declined to comment, beyond saying she is now a full-time doctoral student at Point Park University. She had led the organization since 2011.
