Primary election is Tuesday

Voters will choose their party’s candidates for a variety of offices in Tuesday’s primary election, including Pittsburgh mayor and Allegheny County sheriff.

There also are contested elections for District 4 Pittsburgh City Council, Allegheny County Council seats, Common Pleas Court judgeships, Pittsburgh school board seats, Commonweath Court and Superior Court judgeships, and many municipal and school board elections.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at8 p.m.

County offices are closed with a few exceptions, including the Elections Division.

The courts and court-related offices, including the district attorney’s office and Court Records, will be open during regular business hours. The controller’ s office and sheriff’s office will be open as well, with the exception of the Real Estate Division in the sheriff’s office.

Voters can check their registration and find out where their polling places are on Allegheny County’s Elections Division webpage, where they will find “On Election Day” information. Sample ballots also are available on the site. With the exception of Mt. Lebanon, which has a ballot question, only voters registered as a Democratic or Republican can vote in the primary election.

Sixteen polling place locations have changed since the November general election. Voters in affected voting districts have been notified by mail, but a complete list of the new polling places is on the county website.
