Today, think of those who have sacrificed for us

-

Memorial Day is a time for us to reflect on the many soldiers who fought and are still fighting every day for each of our rights, safety and, even more, our lives.

We need to embark on a personal journey that reminds us of all the struggles our country has endured to grant us freedoms and regain insight into all those we honor and their sacrifices for our equality.

The true respect we can repay to those who sacrificed for each of us is to regain faith in our land and fight ourselves to maintain the privilege that is the backbone of our independence.

We go on and on about what is a right and what is a privilege, forgetting that what our forefathers have provided us is the right to freedom and independence, which is privilege. It’s a privilege that Memorial Day weekend should elicit sadness, pride, hope and sheer appreciation for all who have given so that we sustain all we have been bestowed.

Take pause at some point during this holiday weekend and recognize the angst that others withstood for each of us. Remember all those who have selfishly continued to fight so we maintain the privilege that we so take for granted — our freedom. SUE McKELVEY North Strabane agencies. In this meeting was the national security adviser, who has stated that nothing inappropriate was discussed.

No American members of the media were present at the meeting, so one must wonder from whence comes Mr. Bedo’s information and revelations. The Russian press was present, so one must wonder how “secret” the discussions were. For all Mr. Bedo knows (or I), the subject was American import quotas on Caspian Sea sardines.

It is common knowledge that the Americans and the Russians actually share a number of concerns — ISIS being just one. Russian and American military forces try to act in concert. It is a commonly known fact there are ongoing discussions between the two countries. One of President Donald Trump’s stated objectives was to ease relations with the Russians — usually accomplished through mutual discussions.

I wonder if Mr. Bedo was as concerned about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of unsecured computers and improper security for State Department secret information and other confidential matters. BILL YORK Upper St. Clair

President Donald Trump’s spending proposal is to help make America great again by cutting back on social programs and giving the money back to the billionaires who earned it, like himself. FRANK KERNAN

We welcome your opinion

usual Democratic excuse for our lousy 20-year economy is, “Well, every other country is just as bad” — which I guess means let’s just get used to it. Empty leftist thinking is eternal.

Every time you try to grow the economy, the left has Pelosi moral indignation. Reminds me of a quote: “Moral indignation is the technique used to endow the idiot with dignity.” And why wouldn’t a leftist threaten more work for the Grim Reaper? They want to keep people on the edge of poverty so more food stamps, and therefore more Democratic votes, will flow.

America used to lead the world in economic growth, but with Dems in charge, we’ve been just another European social democrat society with stagnant GDP, declining wages and mounting debt (under Obamanomics it grew from $11 trillion to $19 trillion) — and they want to keep it that way.
