Jets grab former Steeler Thomas

-

The New York Jets have signed former Steelers safety Shamarko Thomas and waived linebacker Jevaris Jones.

Thomas was a fourthround draft pick by the Steelers out of Syracuse in 2013. He played in 51 games, including three playoff games, in four seasons with the Steelers. He had 38 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery on defense, and 29 tackles on special teams.

Thomas missed the last four games of last season with a concussion.

Jones was signed last month after a tryout at rookie minicamp. The former Shorter University standout had 106 tackles and forced four fumbles last season.

Browns

Cleveland sent linebacker Demario Davis back to the Jets, trading him for safety Calvin Pryor. Davis spent four seasons with the Jets. He signed as an unrestricted free agent with Cleveland before last season. He finished with 99 tackles and two sacks. Pryor is a former firstround draft pick. He made 38 starts over three seasons for New York. Pryor had a disappointing 2016 season and became expendable when the Jets drafted safeties in the first two rounds of the draft this year.

Ravens

Cornerback Tavon Young left Thursday’s organized team activity with a knee injury, later revealed to be a torn ACL. “Coming back stronger than ever, GOD got me, thanks for the prayers,” Young tweeted. Young, who had emerged as the team’s top option in the slot entering his second season, intercepted a pass by backup quarterback Dustin Vaughan during a drill about an hour into the session and was injured as he ran up the field. “There wasn’t much contact at all,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said.

Lions

Ameer Abdullah rehabbed maniacally in an attempt to return late last season, but given the nature of his injury, Detroit’s No. 1 running back never was a candidate to see the field. Abdullah admitted in a recent interview that he had a Lisfranc tear in a Week 2 loss to Tennessee. “I ended up tearing my Lisfranc the second game of the season against Tennessee, separating my foot, so that was a bummer for me,” Abdullah said.

Eagles

Philadelphia and firstround pick Derek Barnett have agreed on a four-year contract. Barnett was selected with the 14th overall pick after the defensive end broke Hall of Famer Reggie White’s school record with 32 sacks in three seasons at Tennessee. All of Philadelphia’s draft picks are now signed.

49ers

San Francisco signed cornerback Will Davis to a oneyear deal. Davis was originally drafted by Miami in the third round in 2013. He played 17 games for the Dolphins before being traded to Baltimore in September 2015. He played five games with the Ravens the past two seasons before being waived in November.

Raiders

Oakland selected its official broadcast partners in Las Vegas. The team announced a Fox affiliate and radio stations owned by Beasley Media Group will carry exclusive Raiders content and coverage. KVVU-TV will hold the television rights for the Raiders.
