Casting call

Pet Valu is looking for 13 animals to star in 2018 calendars that will be sold in the pet stores in November. There is no fee to enter, and the calendars, which sell for $5, have raised $572,926 since 2011. That money goes to local animal cruelty prevention groups.

Send pet photos to www.facebook.com/ PetValuUS, which has instructions and guidelines. The entry deadline is Friday.

Mittens, a cat from Owings Mills, Md., is on the cover of the 2017 calendar. She was an animal cruelty survivor before she was adopted by her current family. After Mittens and her two kittens were set on fire in an alley, she saved her kittens but lost most of both ears.

“The annual event at Pet Valu is dedicated to ensuring that this kind of animal cruelty never happens to another pet,” according to the news release.

Winning blogger

Tori Mistick of Point Breeze has won for Best Pet Blog Design at the BlogPaws 2017 Nose to Nose Awards. On her Wear Wag Repeat blog (http://wearwagrepeat.com/blog/) she reports that she and her chocolate Labrador retriever Lucy “road-tripped” to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to pick up the award.

Ms. Mistick says her blog is “a fashion blog for dog moms” with do-it-yourself projects.
