Covestro seeks deals to expand in plastics, chemicals

Covestro is seeking acquisitio­ns to expand its specialty plastics and chemicals business. Patrick Thomas, chief executive, said the company expects to generate 5 billion euros ($5.7 billion) in cash flow over the next five years and will use the money for mergers and acquisitio­ns. If it doesn’t find suitable investment­s in 24 months, Covestro will return the cash to shareholde­rs through share buybacks or special dividends, he said.

Age discrimina­tion case settled

Pittsburgh Glass Works and a former employee who charged the company with retaliatio­n and age discrimina­tion have reached a settlement. Rudolph Karlo and several other former workers who were 50 years old or older sued for age discrimina­tion after PGW terminated them in 2009. Mr. Karlo was later rehired and claimed PGW then retaliated against him because he would not drop the original discrimina­tion case. A federal court jury awarded him more than $900,000 in lost wages and benefits.

The Brassero Grill mobile food truck at 6800 Frankstown Ave. was hit with a consumer alert by the Allegheny County Health Department because of a number of uncorrecte­d health code violations. Some of the problems included holding numerous foods at unsafe temperatur­es, inadequate water supply and lack of a certified food safety manager.

Kraft Heinz to sell New York cheese plant to cooperativ­e

Kraft Heinz Co. said it reached a deal to sell its cheese plant in Campbell, N.Y., to Upstate Niagara Cooperativ­e for undisclose­d terms. Upstate Niagara is a farmer-owned cooperativ­e of 360 dairy farms in western New York. The transactio­n is expected to close in the next two months.
