Two 55-plus communities offer resort-style, low-maintenance living in Pittsburgh

- By: Beth Vassallo

With affordable homes, scenic views and a growing economy, it may seem like life in Pittsburgh couldn’t get any better. But Traditions of America is striving to enhance the experience for local residents aged 55 and older with two low-maintenance communities - Summer Seat and Pinnacle at Adams.

The response since the first community opened in 2014 has been overwhelmingly positive. That community, Sewickley Ridge, sold its last home this past February. Summer Seat in the North Hills opened in August of last year and, to date, 60 of the 133 homes are sold. Only 50 percent of the company’s newest addition to the area, Pinnacle at Adams in Butler County, is still available.

Traditions of America’s Marketing Vice President, Jay Goldberg, credits the company’s “huge focus on the customer experience” for its success.

“From offering flexibility in financing programs and customization to allowing people a longer time to move in to their new home and assistance with selling their current home, our founding principles are all focused on being flexible for the buyer,” he said.

In addition to a positive buying experience, Traditions of America homeowners also enjoy custom-built homes and resort-style amenities which, at Summer Seat, includes a 4,500-squarefoot clubhouse.

“The Clubhouse at Summer Seat features a beautiful ballroom, a prep kitchen and an eating area for that kitchen,” said Mr. Goldberg. “In addition, there’s a business center/library, a billiards lounge with a bar and seating, a yoga room, a fully equipped fitness center and flat screen TVs virtually everywhere. Of course, outside there’s a pool, huge pool deck area, hot tub and outdoor kitchen.”

Pinnacle at Adams offers a different concept. In this 77-acre, 55-home development, the emphasis is on outdoor amenities which include an outdoor fitness station, a walking trail, a pond for kayaking and fishing and a fire pit with a gathering area around it for relaxing.

“By creating a community in this way, residents will be more in touch with nature and perhaps with each other,” said Mr. Goldberg.

Five floorplans priced from the mid-$300,000s are available on lots of a half-acre or bigger. All of the models feature side-entry garages to make the streetscape more spread out and homeowners’ cars less visible.

The community celebrated a Model Grand Opening on June 24 for the Betsy Ross and Hancock models. Both homes feature a first-floor master suite, a gourmet, eat-in kitchen and a spacious porch and patio.
