Double the fun for Mirror Image: Murrysville twins advance on ‘America’s Got Talent’

-

Minutes after Murrysville twins Colton and Trent Edwards performed Tuesday night on “America’s Got Talent” judge Simon Cowell rolled his eyes and said, “There’s going to be a lot of arguments later.”

“Yeah,” added his colleague, Howie Mandel.

“But I’m going to win!” responded judge Mel B.

Happily for the Edwards boys, 16, she was right. The act, known as Mirror Image, moved on to the round of live shows of NBC’s summertime juggernaut, despite Mr. Cowell’s reluctance.

Before the twins performed an exuberant song-and-dance to a Mamas & the Papas/Sia mashup, Trent noted that their goal was to win over Mr. Cowell. They weren’t successful on that count, as Mr. Cowell slapped them with a big red “X” vote of non-confidence during the number.

But there wasn’t much that was going to discourage Mirror Image, who will be juniors at Franklin Regional High School. Wearing khakis and matching shirts that riffed on Van Gogh’s “Almond Blossoms,” they threw in some backflips and ended with splits.

Mel B, who was their biggest supporter in the first televised audition several weeks ago, said, “You two are special. You know, you made me feel really good inside. Forget the ‘X’ — you’ve got us, you’ve got me, rooting for you.”

DJ Khaled, guest judge for this round, looked a bit baffled and just said, “I’m trying to figure it out.”

The live shows begin Aug. 15, which NBC will air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
